by his definition, they aren't; they're superficial, rarefied, or both. given how strongly he feels about access to art, i'm pretty surprised his month o' local art didn't include a direct reference to how the met just renegotiated its lease so that it's no longer pay-as-you-wish.
...or so that it can choose to be other than pay-as-you-wish, rather.
